In your gut, you have microbes, good microbes and bad microbes. The good microbes help you digest your food. Items required for making powerful probiotic at home
- Large jar
- Mustard seeds
Process of making powerful probiotic at home
- Fill the jar with water
- Add a tablespoon of salt and crushed mustard seeds
- Add chopped beetroot/carrot
- Cover and store
- Keep for 5-6 days
- Tangy and sour
You need a large glass jar or a ceramic jar, four or five carrots. But I prefer to use three to four medium-sized beetroots, get really dark red beetroots. One tablespoon of salt, it could be rock salt, it could be pink salt, it could be black salt. One tablespoon of crushed mustard seed. Fill up a litre jar or a litre ceramic jar with water. Add a tablespoon of salt. Add a tablespoon of the crushed mustard seeds. Chop the beetroot into juliens into thin finger bits and put it in this water and cover this with a lid or a thin muslin or a cheesecloth. Keep it for about five to six days.
Every third day you take a wooden spoon and just stir it. Stir the contents together. After six to seven days you want to taste it. If it’s tangy and sour your probiotic drink is ready. Strain it, pour it out. You can have a glass of this liquid every day and the beet root could be eaten like a pickle with your normal Indian food.
Make probiotic at home with leftover cooked rice
There’s also another very simple one. Take leftover cooked rice in the night and just soak it in a little bit of water overnight. In the morning strain the water out, add a little tempering of curry leaves, mustard seeds, and a little bit of chilli and you eat that little small bowl. It could be just three tablespoons of rice and that’s a fantastic probiotic that is dairy-free again.
