So, he sat outside of his house, waiting and hoping that one of his neighbours would notice him and share some food. At that moment, a beggar came to him and said, “Sir, I’m very hungry. Please give me some food.” After looking at the beggar, Papanna got a despicable idea.
“Where are you from? Which village do you belong to? I’ve never seen you here before,” Papanna inquired, to which the beggar replied that he was a beggar who travels all around the villages in the kingdom, begging for food. This was his first visit to this village, and he was very hungry. Papanna, pretending to be generous, invited the beggar to sit next to him and offered him to stay at his house for as long as he wanted to stay in the village.
The beggar, touched by the gesture, thanked Papanna, who then suggested the beggar go to the neighbour’s house to get food from the festival, explaining that they were celebrating the death anniversary of an old lady and had not invited him. The beggar, grateful for the advice, went to the neighbour’s house to collect food. Papanna, seizing the opportunity, handed the beggar a huge bowl to collect more food, only to take the majority for himself when the beggar returned, leaving the beggar with only a small portion.
