Tips – Networking for Introverts
Prepare ahead of time
Most introverts are naturally good at planning and preparation.
It would be better to prepare how you will open conversations, your goals for those conversations, what questions you intend to ask. It is also good to spend a little time mentally preparing yourself for the event.
This will help to make sure that you are on top of your social game when the time comes.
Find a buddy to go with you
A great way to ease your nerves a little is by sticking close to a buddy that you are comfortable with. It would be better if that is an extrovert.
A smile is one of the most useful social tools. The first impression is the best impression. A smile will help to give a positive impression of you before you ever say a word.
Set goals before ever arrive at a networking event
You should set goals for the meeting. Keep those goals at the front of your mind and treat networking as a task necessary to carry out those goals. It will strengthen and help you push past any shyness.
Think of yourself as being welcome
Introverts have a tendency to think that others will view them negatively if they are overly social. Remember that it is likely that many of the people coming to the event are uncomfortable and nervous as well.
Stay in the moment
Once you start the conversation it is important to stay in that conversation only. The person you are talking with will likely notice your focus and appreciate your attentiveness and interest.
Pick the right event
Some events are more comfortable for introverts than others. Try to attend every event that you can and practice. Try to attend events that are outside your comfort zone.
